Dr. Mohammed Riajul Islam

Dr. Mohammed Riajul Islam is an environmental geochemist by profession and has been working as an Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Crop & Soil Sciences, Washington State University since 2013. Dr. Islam has completed his B.Sc. (Honors) and M.Sc. degrees in Geology and Mining from Rajshahi University in 1985 and 1988 respectively and Ph.D. from Department of Geology, University of Oulu, Finland in 1996. Since then Dr. Islam worked as Postdoctoral Researcher in Geological Survey of Finland, Helsinki (1997 – 1998), Duke University, Durham, NC (1999 – 2000), University of Idaho, Moscow (2001 – 2005), and in Washington State University, Pullman (2000 – 2013) mainly on Bangladesh arsenic disaster (hydrochemistry/geochemistry). Dr. Islam has published more than 13 research papers in national and international journals and encyclopedia. Beside his academic and professional careers Dr. Islam was involved in many student and socio-cultural organizations in Europe and in USA in the past including as the founder Secretary General of Federation of Islamic Organizations in Finland (FIOF; 18-organizational alliance of Islamic organizations) and the Executive Director of American Association of Bangladeshi Scholars and Professionals (AABSP) (2016 -2017). Currently Dr. Islam has been serving as the President of Muslim Forum of the Pacific Northwest [MFPNW: 5-State (WA, ID, OR, MT, and AK) Umbrella Organization of Islamic organizations] since 2010, and also as the President of Pullman Islamic Association (PIA) Board of Trustees (Masjid), Pullman, WA since 2016. Dr. Islam has been living with family in Pullman, WA since 2000.
